I AM BACK!! Yes here I am, rock you like a hurricane.
Well the reasn for my abscence during the one week, is that I was at home resting after fracturing my big toe on my left leg! On Tuesday night, half asleep I had walked into the sofa in the living room, thereby fracturing my toe. All I can remember was the pain at night, since I was offcially wiped out and exhausted I just went back to sleep thinking that it wasn't anything serious. The next morning (or more correctly noon) I woke up with just a little pain in my toe area and I passed it off as a sprain occured during the night's adventure.
So I went out that afternoon and it was only while walking back home that evening that I felt that the injury could be a bit more serious, as I was limping while walking back home. I just put it off again as a sprain and applied some herbal ointment on my left foot. However the next morning, instead of getting better, it was actually more painfull and my dad suggested to go and show it to a doctor. So off I went to MAJ Hospital in Edapally and an x-ray later, found out that I had a hairline fracture in my big toe. So I was adviced to take it easy for about a week to 10 days and they gave me some painkillers & tie mt big toe to the one next to it with some sticking plaster. I took leave from the office and subjected myself to a boring 7 days at home.
On top of that, my cousin Suraj was getting married on the 25th, yesterday, so My mom & dad went to Trivandrum, leaving me alone with just Shawny junior for company. I was wondering how I would cope, since the pup is very active & playful and needs attention all the time. Feeding the dog would prove to be very tricky as she tends to jump up and down and I had to be very careful that she didn't land on my toe.
While out of commission, I slept most afternoons and watched a whole lot of tv, some good stuff and some bad stuff. I did manage to watch something I was highly anticipating with bated breath Queen Of The Damned. Part of the Vampire Chronicles series by author Anne Rice (yes I am a big fan), the movie is shot well. It the story, the Vampire Lestat, realises the possibilities & oppurtunities that fronting a gothic metal band gives him. His music awakensthe ancient Queen Akasha, the mother of all Vampires, and she wants him to become her king.
Another movie that I saw was Threshold. A space shuttle crew return to Earth, bringing alien "seeds" with them. These begin to grow into alien life-forms, needing hosts to complete their evolution... When their number reach the Threshold amount, they will be an unstoppable swarm, so it's up to two scientists to stop them beofre it's too late. The movie stars three actors who I regularly see in tv series and/or tv movies on Hallmark or HBO - Steve Bacic, Nicholas Lea & David Lipper. The movie wasn't all that great, but it was ok - another one of those alien creatures that take over humans kinda movie.
Dave Andreychuk is putting off retirement for a while. The veteran of 22 NHL seasons re-signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, agreeing on a two-year deal. Andreychuk, who will turn 42 on Sept. 29, won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 2004, after 1,597 regular-season games and 162 playoff contests. There was speculation he would retire on top, especially after the lockout wiped out last season. But Lightning general manager Jay Feaster - who signed Martin St. Louis to a six-year deal on Wednesday - wanted to keep Andreychuk around. "Dave Andreychuk walked into our locker-room four seasons ago and helped us find our way," Feaster said in a release. "He helped our young players grow and develop and mature more quickly and he helped establish an expectation level in terms of expecting to win each and every night through hard work and commitment. .B .B . "Having his veteran presence back in our locker-room and his perennial 20-goal contribution on the ice are huge factors in helping us attempt to repeat as Stanley Cup champions." Andreychuk joined the Lightning in 2001-02, taking over as captain the next year. The six-foot-four, 220-pound winger was a big part of Tampa's Stanley Cup run, scoring 21 goals with 18 assists in 82 games during the regular season and adding a goal and 13 assists in 23 contests during the playoffs. The Hamilton native is second all-time among left-winger with 634 goals, 686 assists and 1,320 points and is seventh in games played. Andreychuk has also played for Buffalo, Toronto, New Jersey, Boston and Colorado during his career, posting a pair of 50-goal seasons for the Maple Leafs in 1992-93 and 1993-94.
Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Thursday the signing of defenseman Andrei Markov to a two-year contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Markov, 26, now entering his fifth season with the Canadiens, spent the 2004-05 season with the Moscow Dynamo of the Russian Elite League where he registered 23 points in 42 games (7 goals, 16 assists). Markov chipped in with two goals in 10 playoff games in helping lead the Dynamo to the league championship.
