Review of 'The State' - Nickleback
After having listened to 'The State' once, one can see the huge potential that they were capable of back in 1999. I had already bought and listened to their smash hit album 'Silver Side Up' which was released in September, 2001 and I had bought it in Jan 2002, so getting an earlier album is strange to me. Having said that, I had already had mp3 versions of 3 songs from "the State' and so I was a bit familiar with the material. The standout track in this album is the 1999 minor hit 'Leader of Men', which is very good. Ofcourse 'Silver Side Up' had the smash hit single, the biggest song of 2002, 'How U Remind Me' and other great tracks like 'Never AGain', 'Too Bad' &' Where the good Times gone'. 'The State' cannot be compared to their follow up album ,cause the guys in the band were still honing their fine skills in creating hard edged but melodic rock songs. Still 'Cowboy Hat', 'Breathe' & 'Old Enough' are good tracks and they must go well with the audience live. All in all it's a good album showing the world what better things were to come. I also think that had 'Leader Of Men' been released in 'Silver SIde Up' it would have been a huge smash instead of just a minor hit, it could have been as big as 'How U Remind Me'.
