Caught two matches last night - Liverpool 0 : Blackburn 0 & Charlton 2 : Tottenham Hotspurs 0. The Liverpool vs Blackburn game at Anfield was quite good at several points of the match, end to end speedy stuff.

This was also the first match that I had seen of Liverpool with Fernando Morientes playing for them. The Spanish International striker, who spent last year on loan from Real Madrid to AS Monaco and beat them on the way to the Champions League finals, has been relegated to the sideline at his former home in Madrid. The arrival of stars like David Bechkam, Micheal Owen, Ronaldo meant that Real had one attacking star too many and it was Morientes who was shown the door. Although he played part of this season back at Madrid, the move to another club was in the works and Liverpool look happy to have his services.

The NHL season being abandoned due to the League and the players inability to come to an agreement regarding the salary cap means that, other than the fact that there won't be ice hockey at the highest level, but also probably means the career end for several of the games leading lights. And when you speak of leading lights and stars, a name that immediately pops into your mind is that of Mario Lemieux or simple put SUPERMARIO.

Mario had earlier gone through a premature retirement a few years ago due to injuries, but in 2001 he made a sensational comeback. The comeback would again be plagued with further physical damages, particularly his hip for which he has already had surgery. Whether he will come back next season, if there is one, remains to be seen but the Pittsburgh Penguins player and owner (he bought the financially struggling team he loves so much) will forever be remembered as among the world's best.
