One sporting legend who did retire this week is Gabriel Batistuta. The former Argentina striker hang up his boots after spending the last year & a half playing in Qatar. Batistuta the all-time leading goal scorer for his former club, Serie A's Fiorentina, was so popular & worshiped in the Italian city of Florence that they built a statue of him near the club. He played about 9 seasons or so with Fiorentina after moving from River Plate in his native Argentina. Then it was on to Italian giants AS Roma, with whom he won the Serie A championships. He was a big star for his country's national team as well, playing in the 1994, 1998 & 2002 World Cups.

I have been reading in many magazine articles, both on paper & on the net, about the fact that Axl Rose setup his own version of Guns n'Roses with musicians he likes. But hey come on; that would be like Paul McCartney calling on the services of any three of his musician buddies to fill in the roles of John, Paul & George - it won't fly! There is absolutely no way that it would ever be the same. Infact just because Axl has the rights to the band name "Guns n'Roses" he can have whoever he wants playing in the band and still call it that. But which fan in his right mind woldn't make out the difference. They would go to see the concerts, they would buy the CDs but it would like pretending. Wakeup Axl, go get Duff McKagan, Slash, Dizzy Reed, Matt Sorum oh and even get Izzy back.

Song for the day - "Sweet Child O'Mine" - GUNS N'ROSES
