Joffrey Lupul was born September 23, 1983 in Edmonton, Alberta. The first round, seventh overall selection of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Lupul is a graduate of the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers. An offensively gifted forward, Lupul played three seasons in Medicine Hat tallying 240 points (127-113-240) and was a member of Canada's Silver Medal World Junior Team in 2003 before making his NHL debut with Anaheim in 2003-04. In his first NHL season, Lupul tied for sixth in rookie scoring with 34 points (13-21-34) and was invited to take part in the 2004 NHL Young Guns Game during All-Star Weekend. Although he spent the majority of the season in Anaheim, the former Medicine Hat star played a handful of games with the Ducks AHL affiliate in Cincinnati. In the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Lupul became the first player in NHL playoff history to cap a four-goal game with an overtime score, as he tallied all the Mighty Duck goals in a 4-3 win over Colorado in Game 3 of the Western Conference semi-finals.
