BRENDAN MORROW DALLAS STARS Left Wing # 10 Height: 5-11 Weight: 210 Acquired: Drafted in 1st round (25th overall) in 1997 Birth Place: Carlyle, Saskatchewan DOB: 01/16/1979
Born in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, Brenden Morrow scored 117 goals in 60 games for the Estevan Bruins of the SAHA before joining the Portland Winter Hawks of the WHL in 1995-96. A gritty forward who can put the puck in the net, Morrow amassed 127 goals in four years for the club and was a WHL First Team All-Star in 1998-99. The 25th overall selection of the Dallas Stars in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Morrow help Portland capture a Memorial Cup title in 1999, before making his NHL debut in 2000-01. As a rookie Morrow went on to score 14 goals and finished the season with 33 points. After a strong rookie campaign, Morrow registered 20 goals and was a +18 in 2000-01 while taking on a more substantial role with the Stars. A strong skater, Morrow set a career high in goals in 2002-03 with 21 before eclipsing that total in 2003-04, when he tallied 25 goals and finished the season with 49 points. On the international stage, Morrow was a member of Canada's World Junior silver medal team in 1999, is a four-time member of its World Championship team (2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005).
The Dallas Stars puzzle pieces for the upcoming season are finally starting to fall into place, as the club and left wing Brenden Morrow reached an agreement Friday on a two-year contract. Morrow, who had been a restricted free agent, is a major piece of Dallas' 2005-2006 puzzle, and most certainly, in the club's plans for the future.
The 26-year-old had a career year for the Stars in 2003-2004, notching 25 goals and 49 points, both career bests. He was among the team's leaders in virtually every offensive category and missed just one game due to injury. He recorded his first career hat trick on Jan. 31, 2004 at Phoenix, and is considered incredibly durable and consistent. The 5-11, 210-lb. left wing has played in 185 career NHL home games and 185 career NHL road contests, recording 102 points both at home (45-57-102) and on the road (52-50-102). In five NHL seasons, all with the Stars, the native of Carlyle, Sask., has appeared in 370 games and has notched 204 points (97 goals and 107 assists) and 575 penalty minutes. Morrow participated in Hockey Canada's orientation camp for the 2006 Winter Olympics this past week in British Columbia, and skated for his home country in the 2004 and 2005 World Championships, as well as the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. Morrow also stayed in shape through the 2004-05 season by playing briefly for the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League. He was the best player on the ice during his entire minor league foray, and the Stars are hoping that he'll continue that dominant level of play at the NHL level.
