I have been a fan of Ice Hockey for over 5 years now. I used to watch a game a week on ESPN until ESPN Asia stopped showing them. I would wake up at 5 am so I could watch the coolest game on the planet, with a big mug of strong black coffee.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks, one of the 30 teams in the premier hockey league - the NHL - is owner by Disney. I can't be sure but I think that they were named after the movie, also made by Disney and also called "The Mighty Ducks" in which a ragtag team of young hockey playing kids (lead by Joshua Jackson and coached by Emilio Estevez)make it huge. They were followed by 2 sequels as well. Here is a pic of Anaheim's fomer captain Paul Kariya who has since moved on to the Colorado Avalanche. Kariya was their most talented, most popular, most payed & most successful player.

Here is their logo, their home jersey & their goalie mask.

A sceane from the movie "Mighty Ducks"

There is also a Mighty Ducks cartoon, a group of crime fighters cum hockey team!!

Makes me wonder, what Disney & American media won't do to squeeze as much money possible out of what should be about sports. The real life Anaheim Mighty Ducks made it to the final of the 2003 Stanley Cup, riding on the excellent form of goalie Sebatien Giguere , only to lose to the powerful New Jersey Devil.
